Scale Model

Using the exhibition concepts and Big Idea as our focus, we created a scale model to experiment with objects and physical space to reflect our driving narrative:

  • The curve of the “Introduction” section serves as a gateway to capture visitors’ attention and further guide them into the space.

  • Persepolis” is split by a linen veil, directly referencing the opening chapter of the novel, and has both objects from the novel and real life to blur the lines of graphics and reality.

  • By manipulating the walls in the “Maus” section to create the shape of the cat infamously associated with Hitler in the novel, visitors are forced to walk into its mouth into a smaller, more intimate area. As they enter the belly of the beast, they face real-life propaganda posters and images from WWII.

  •  Located in the center of the entire exhibition is “Call-To-Action” with the main spectacle, a large-scale Persepolis and Maus that immerse the visitors and make them feel as if they are living in the books themselves. Visitors are able to revisit this section and flip through the controversial pages of Maus and Persepolis that got them banned, reflecting on what they have learned in this interactive space.

The grid layout of our scale model was useful for figuring out space restraints but also helped ensure we kept up with ADA standards
